Following my training, I have amassed over 24 months of clinical experience in a multidisciplinary team. I have provided care and assistance for people across different age groups ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, people with special needs and disabilities, performance restricted and activity limited group of people and people in hospice. From my experience in the pediatric team wearing a smile at all times to be accepted by the kids community, I assisted qualified pediatric nurses to care for children across all areas of the hospital and community including, pre-assessments, day surgery and out-patients in line with national guidelines, hospital policies and best practice standard. I built strong knowledge of how to meet and maintain service user’s physical and emotional needs, comfort and dignity and provided appropriate supporting care. In Neurology/Elderly care, I was given the opportunity to provide support to old aged patients and assist other health care providers across all areas of the hospital and community/old people's home to provide care. I enhanced my skills of assessment, patient's position, feeding, hygiene, grooming, dressing, bathing and oral care to effectively meet with patients'activities of daily living. This rotation gave me more insight into the signs, symptoms and clinical presentations of neurological conditions and has particularly enabled me to build my verbal as well as my non-verbal communication skills as I frequently worked with patients who had communication difficulties. While providing care to people with special needs and disabilities, I supported with personal tasks and reported to a healthcare professional when uncertain. i was able to contribute to outdoor activities and became an advocate for people with disabilities. I also helped to monitor and report any safeguarding concerns. From my experience caring for people in hospice, I was able to sharpen my observational skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills and communication skills and became more flexible, compassionate, patient and initiative while providing best practice and ensuring high standard of care. In my current role as a Healthcare Assistant in a multidisciplinary team in an acute hospital setting on rotation in rehabilitation unit were I assist the team in assessing of patient, planing of care plan and managing caseload of patient. I also aid patient improve on their activities of daily living in a person centered way and perform other clinical and therapeutic duties assigned to me by the nurse in charge documenting clearly and concisely under supervision with excellent professional working relationships with colleagues, I have clear understanding of my role in discharging my professional duties. I maintain at all times a kind, caring and professional attitude towards patients, relatives and colleagues within the clinical setting, taking into consideration dignity, privacy, and confidentiality, cultural and religious needs. I am physically fit and able to undertake manual handling tasks such as patient transfer, manipulations, etc. I can sustain moderate to high-level physical effort throughout the working day.
