With this opportunity, Everyday i will be willing to make a difference to someone’s quality of life, supporting them to remain living independently. To have a a formal understanding of care, I have completed the care courses offered by Florence Academy. Having a background in computer science i have the ability to collect and analyze information, problem-solve, and make decisions. With my analytical skills i can detect patterns, brainstorm, observe, interpreting data, and make decisions based on the multiple factors and options available to me. i have a good understanding of Identifying and organizing systems and required resources. with little or no supervision, i am able to Organize personal time to carry out responsibilities. i can Maintain adequate preparation time for scheduled meetings/deadlines. i can also Develop schedules and timetables with clear, specific milestones/deadlines and then Establish how to measure results and milestones. I have developed healthy communication style that makes it easier and enable me deal with conflict and build a stronger and healthier partnership. these include: Ask questions when i get confused or need more clarification, Keeping focused and summarizing subtly and logical through conversations, Outline a plan, Follow up with people, Respect other people’s privacy and space, Positive body language and tone, Knowing people’s interests, Knowing which communication approach they favor, Help them if they are struggling. My whole experience with care started with my late dad. He had severe arthritics which made him to barely walk. i was the only one available to help him throughout his struggles for over 4 years before he passed on in February 2019. i have had the opportunity of helping him start up his day. Getting him up out of bed and ready for the day it may sound easy, but it's definitely not. Especially when he may not have the mobility to do the things that a normal person can. I was the helping hands that he needed, assisting him with personal care, out of bed into a chair, making him dinner and running errands amongst other things. All the things we take for granted but he certainly don’t. After taking his bath i take my time to massage his hip and other parts of his body he complained of pains. I used a lotion prescribed by the family doctor. I can't forget the first time I assisted him to walk and it was very nerve racking thinking about the responsibility I had in my hands, being scared he might fall. This is where you need to be patient and careful with him as you definitely don’t want accidents to happen. I will say i am very comfortable and i have built extra ordinary patient to handle situations. I have experienced some very daunting situations where i would need to think fast and also solve them quickly. You need to be able to do this as it will happen daily. Been in such situations, i have learned to spontaneously and accurately make decisions. I loved chatting with him, being a companion he always want to talk to and make him a cup of tea. These simple things go such a long way, knowing he have someone to trust and rely on. Caring for me means to be willing to put the needs of others first. Being kind to people, having empathy, understanding, not judging but loving. it still means these qualities but having to actually ‘care’ for someone means a whole lot more. It now is quite physical as well as emotional. Anyone can be a carer and support other people this means that you are happy to do whatever you can to help, like making tea or getting water. it inspires you to focus on the people that you can help and support on things they can no longer do on there own. Knowing that we can make a positive difference to people’s lives, especially to those that have many obstacles to overcome. it is a tremendous source of motivation and provides a great deal of personal satisfaction that I am helping people to be supported, treated with absolute concern and carry out their daily activities. Providing care for someone on a regular basis allows you make a real difference to someone’s life. I remember how my dad continuously appreciated my level of diversity and skills in adaptability to provide a more personalized care even with no formal care expertise. He confined in me and was always willing to share all feedback concerning his health. He always encouraged me to consider a career in the medical profession. He never misses to look me straight in the eye and say thank you each time I was done with his daily massage and feels excited to share improvements with his health. He always smile at me as you walk through the door and opens up to me over a morning cup of tea, then I know I am making him feel truly valued.
