I have gained experience in geriatric care by looking after my grandmother. I accompanied her to doctor’s appointments, made sure she took her medication correctly, helped her with daily mobility, and supported her with walks and light exercises. Through this, I became familiar with the needs of older people in everyday life and learned patience, empathy, and resilience.
In addition, I gained insight into general healthcare through internships in hospital laboratories. There, I not only learned about hygiene and organization but also supported the medical team in handling patients during sample collection and routine procedures. This gave me valuable experience in interacting with patients in a respectful and responsible manner.
I am applying for a position in the Federal Voluntary Service in geriatric care. I have a strong passion for caring for others and wish to support elderly people in their daily lives while also gaining valuable practical experience as preparation for my planned nursing training.
Through internships in hospital laboratories and by caring for my grandmother, I gained experience in handling patients, learned to work well in teams, and developed resilience, patience, and empathy. These experiences also strengthened my sense of responsibility, reliability, and communication skills. I see this service as a bridge to further build my skills and pursue a professional career in healthcare.
