Erfahrungen in der Alten- oder Krankenpflege:
My experience in geriatric care is based on two key settings. At Lamu Teaching and Referral Hospital, Lamu County, Kenya, I provided psychosocial support to elderly patients in the renal unit as well as in male and female wards. A significant portion of the patients were elderly individuals living with chronic illnesses and comorbid conditions such as diabetes and depression. In this role, I supported emotional wellbeing, coping, and adjustment to long-term illness.
The second aspect of my experience was through the LEO Project, where I focused on men’s mental health, including elderly men. I organized and implemented community interventions such as mental health awareness sessions and free mental health screenings, followed by appropriate referrals for care. To improve access for elderly clients, I worked closely with community health volunteers who helped facilitate follow-up and linkage to services, ensuring continuity of support beyond the screening phase.
I would like to apply for a volunteer position in elderly care within your organization.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Psychology and have experience working in healthcare and community-based programs. Through my work, I have supported patients, worked with multidisciplinary teams, and contributed to improving care systems. This has given me a strong understanding of how meaningful it is to care for others and support their well-being.
I have strong communication and listening skills, as well as a patient and empathetic approach, which are essential when working with elderly individuals. I am also organized and comfortable supporting daily routines and maintaining a clean, structured environment.
I am fluent in English and have German language skills at B1 level, which I am continuing to improve. I am motivated, reliable, and enjoy working in a team.
