Application text:

My first real experience with geriatric care began at home, with my grandmother. As she grew older, I noticed how small things like difficulty walking, forgetfulness, and loneliness began to affect her daily life. I made it my responsibility to support her. I would help her with her medications, ensure she ate balanced meals on time, and assist her with light exercises around the house to keep her active.

Beyond my grandmother, I also spend time with other elderly relatives in my family in Abuja. Many of them live with joint pains, high blood pressure, or limited mobility. I often check on them after school or work, sit with them to talk, and help them run small errands. I’ve learned that geriatric care is not only about physical support. It’s also about patience, listening, and making them feel valued and not forgotten.

Caring for older family members has taught me empathy, responsibility, and how to adapt to different needs with respect and dignity. It strengthened my interest in health and management, because I saw firsthand how better care systems can improve quality of life for the elderly. This personal experience is one of the reasons I am passionate about creating environments and services that truly care for older adults.
